The Cincinnati Bengals are a contender right now, which means big free agents like Taylor Lewan have an interest and speculative trade proposals will be a staple of the offseason.
When the Los Angeles Rams reportedly decided to part ways with star corner Jalen Ramsey, it was only a matter of time before the Bengals were looped into the conversation.
Over at For The Win, Cory Woodroof proposed a Rams-Bengals trade as one of his five possible destinations for the star corner. In that proposed deal, the Bengals get Ramsey and a 2023 sixth-round pick and send away Chidoboe Awuzie, a 2023 third-round pick and a 2024 fourth-round pick:
“Adding Ramsey to Cincinnati’s already formidable defense would be a huge boost in the AFC arms race and could position Cincinnati as a title favorite for 2023.”
Luckily for the Bengals, they’re major contenders going into 2023 without taking on Ramsey’s $17 million cap hit in 2023 while coughing up assets for the future.
The Bengals consider Awuzie a No. 1 corner and second-rounder Cam Taylor-Britt got key reps last year while improving steadily, so that’s the likely one-two punch on the boundary with Mike Hilton still in the slot.
For now, we’ve written on why the Bengals shouldn’t be in on Ramsey as a trade asset. If he becomes a free agent, that’s a mildly different conversation.
If fans want to see the Bengals make a splash via trade, they will likely need to keep an eye out for something smaller like the one that landed them B.J. Hill.
