Analyst suggests UNC basketball commit could contend for top spot in rankings

One analyst believes UNC basketball commit Ian Jackson could end up being the top player in the 2024 class.

Five-star recruit Ian Jackson is the highest-ranked recruit in North Carolina’s 2024 class which ranks No. 1 in the nation here this summer.  The New York native committed to UNC earlier in 2023 and has elevated his game ever since.

Jackson is currently a top 5 prospect and a huge get for Hubert Davis and the Tar Heels.  But can he get even better? One college basketball analyst believes Jackson has the chance to be the top player in 2024.

Here is what Kyle Boone of CBS Sports wrote on who could be at the top of the rankings for the 2024 class when it’s all said and done:

One year ago, Naas Cunningham was the No. 1 talent in the 2024 class, but a lot has changed in that time. Similar to last year’s class, there has not yet been a player to emerge as the No. 1 prospect in the cycle. For now, that honor belongs to uncommitted guard Dylan Harper, but Rutgers commit Airious Bailey, Tre Johnson, Ian Jackson and others are still very much in play to take that spot from him.

After an impressive junior year of high school basketball, Jackson has played well on the AAU circuit including a game-high 23 points on Thursday for the Wiz Kids.

His stock continues to be on the rise which is a good thing for the Tar Heels before he gets on campus in Chapel Hill.
