The North Carolina Tar Heels made the cut for top overall recruit AJ Dybantsa‘s updated list as his recruitment moves forward. UNC also will receive a visit from Dybantsa this fall, hoping to impress him.
However, it sounds like UNC and other big programs have some work to do to land the talented recruit.
In the latest Rivals Roundtable article, Rob Cassidy and Jason Jordan discussed Dybantsa’s recruitment and who they believe is the leader for him at the moment.
Here is what Cassidy had to say about the recruiting race for Dybantsa:
Cassidy: The field is probably still the smart money at this point, but I’ll take the Cougars. Things seem to be falling into place over there and A.J. Dybantsa ’s offseason transfer to Utah Prep was not some convenient coincidence. There is real and serious mutual interest between Kevin Young’s program and the No. 1 prospect in the 2025 Rivals150, and I become more convinced the Cougars can close the deal by the week. There’s a long way to go in the Dybantsa sweepstakes and I’m sure another viable option will emerge down the road, but BYU is the clear leader in the clubhouse for the time being.
In-state BYU has been considered the favorite for a few weeks now and it doesn’t appear as if that is changing anytime soon. As Cassidy mentions, the transfer to Utah Prep means something in this recruitment.
Can other teams still land him? Sure, but it sounds like they have a lot of work to do during these fall visits if they really want to impact the recruitment and land the No. 1 overall prospect.
