The Miami Dolphins sure would have loved to see the Houston Texans fall to the Buffalo Bills on Saturday afternoon — doing so would have greatly helped the Dolphins’ standing in the bottom third of the 2020 NFL Draft order. Instead, the Bills choked away a 16-0 lead over the Houston Texans and fell in overtime thanks to a magical effort from Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson.
Watson was sacked 7 times on the day, just in case you were wondering how Laremy Tunsil’s addition has helped solidify the entire line, by the way.
The loss, paired with a Titans win over New England, now has this Texans draft pick on slippery standing. We know for a fact the pick won’t fall any lower than 25th in the NFL Draft order given that there will be four Wild Card round teams eliminated and locked into slots 21-24.
But with the Titans advancing as well, the table is set for this Houston pick to sit above an eliminated Tennessee as well. Since the Texans own a better record than the Titans, the Titans would pick first if both teams were eliminated in the same round of the playoffs.
And depending on what happens today on the NFC side of the fence, this pick may be set to tumble even further. If the Eagles and/or Vikings serve up wins today, the Texans could fall above either one of them as well.
As of now, here’s what we know: if the Texans win next week, the Dolphins’ third 1st-round pick will be 29th or lower. If the Texans lose and the Titans win, the pick could sit 25th with the NFC side pending. But if the Texans and Titans both lose, Houston’s pick will be no better than 26th for the Dolphins.
