The Miami Dolphins didn’t need an unlucky break to walk away from Sunday’s contest at MetLife Stadium on the losing end of a football game. Not this time. The Dolphins were stunned as New York scored 29 points in the second half, romping Miami by a final score of 36-20. It was an ugly day and the Dolphins are likely to be thankful to be done with the home of the Jets and Giants.
Week 15’s loss has a silver lining in the 2020 NFL Draft, however. As things currently stand, Miami has made some movement on this front and has an opportunity to make even more waves in next weekend’s Week 16 slate.
As things currently stand, Miami’s draft selections are finally trending in the right direction. But they’re running out of time.
Miami’s pick: 3rd overall
A Dolphins win this weekend would have Miami sitting 5th in the NFL Draft order. Wins last week and this week? Miami would be 8th. So if you want the bright side to losing consecutive games in northern New Jersey, there you have it. The Dolphins will get a little help next weekend in the order, too — the Giants and Redskins play one another. Both teams are also 3-11 and a win there would help Miami soften the blow of potentially beating the 1-13 Bengals at Hard Rock Stadium.
Pittsburgh’s pick: 22nd overall
This pick has held its ground, but the Steelers are on shaky footing. Pittsburgh plays the New York Jets next weekend and then finishes the season with the Baltimore Ravens. If the Tennessee Titans defeat the Houston Texans in Week 17 and the Steelers finish the season 1-1 or worse, the Steelers will miss the playoffs. We know what to root for — although Pittsburgh has hardly been compliant this season.
Houston’s pick: 23rd overall
Houston’s broke Miami’s heart with a win against the Titans in Nashville yesterday — it was put the Texans in the driver’s seat for the AFC South and leaves little chance for Houston to make the playoffs. But the Texans aren’t likely to get a bye and as things currently stand are on target to draw the Buffalo Bills in the Wild Card round. The sooner the Texans exit the postseason, the better the pick.
