The Jacksonville Jaguars sustained a tough loss in Week 13 while the Buffalo Bills had their bye.
The Jaguars fell to the Cincinnati Bengals but are still the AFC South leaders and in the postseason picture. The Bills (6-6) are now the No. 11 seed thanks to the Bengals’ win over the Jags. Cincinnati (6-6) owns the tiebreaker on Buffalo.
All that considered, the Jaguars (8-4) could start falling down the standings if two of their top playmakers don’t heal up fast.
At the top, quarterback Trevor Lawrence, 24, left the loss to Cincinnati in the fourth quarter after tackling an odd looking tackle. Lawrence departed and did not return and it team went on to lose with CJ Beathard under center.
Lawrence has a high-ankle sprain, Jacksonville head coach Doug Pederson told reporters Tuesday. Pederson at not yet ruled Lawrence out of their upcoming Week 14 contest against the Cleveland Browns, but that would be a quick turnaround–But it all depends on how bad Lawrence’s ankle is.
More definitively, the Jaguars will be without No. 1 receiver Christian Kirk, 27, for an extended period. Pederson said a core injury might need surgery and will cause Kirk to “miss some time.”
After 13 weeks of the 2023 season, Kirk again leads the Jaguars in receiving yards with 787 yards.
Without Kirk, rookie Parker Washington and former Bill-turned-Jaguar Zay Jones will be relied upon more.
While injuries have mounted for Buffalo to this point in the season, they are in Jacksonville now too. It could help the Bills slide into the postseason.
