American Century Championship: Steph Curry in sixth place after round 1 at celebrity golf tournament in Lake Tahoe

After the first 18 holes of golf at the American Century Classic celebrity golf tournament in Lake Tahoe, Warriors guard Steph Curry is in sixth place.

Instead of suiting up in his Golden State Warriors’ No. 30 jersey, Steph Curry traded his basketball shoes for golf clubs over the weekend in Lake Tahoe.

For the ninth time, the two-time Most Valuable Player put on the spikes at Edgewood Resort in Lake Tahoe for the American Century Championship celebrity golf tournament.

Curry joined celebrities and athletes like Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo, San Francisco 49ers Hall of Fame receiver Jerry Rice, and NBA legend Vince Carter in the field on the golf course.

In the first round of the tournament, it was a family affair for Curry in Lake Tahoe. Dell and Seth rounded out the Curry family group for the opening round of the celebrity tournament.

For the tournament, the scoring is a modified version of the Stableford system. Here’s a look at how the scoring will work over the weekend via the Golf Channel.

Albatross (Double-Eagle): 10 points

Hole-in-one: 8 points

Eagle: 6 points

Birdie: 3 points

Par: 1 point

Bogey: 0 points

Double bogey or worse: -2 points

The Warriors point guard carried the Curry family in the first round, tallying a 21. Curry pared 12 consecutive holes before dropping in a birdie on No. 13. However, Curry followed his birdie with a double bogey. The seven-time All-Star guard finished the back nine with two more birdies to shoot a 71 (-1) on the day.
