Amar’e Stoudemire announces he’s not returning to the Nets’ bench

Amar’e Stoudemire has left the Nets after two seasons as an assistant under Steve Nash.

When the Brooklyn Nets hired Steve Nash to become the team’s head coach in September 2020, one of Nash’s first moves was to bring in his old Phoenix Suns running mate Amar’e Stoudemire.

Stoudemire, who had just finished his playing career overseas and been named the Israeli Basketball Premier League Finals MVP in the summer of 2020, joined the team that October as a player development assistant, his first coaching job.

Following the Nets’ tumultuous season and early playoff exit, though, Stoudemire has decided to leave his position after two seasons. He announced the news on ESPN’s “Get Up.”

“Going forward I’m not with the Nets anymore. I decided not to go back with the Nets for next season,” Stoudemire said.
