Alvin Brooks III is leaving Baylor to join Mark Pope with Kentucky basketball

Kentucky basketball hires Baylor assistant Alvin Brooks III.

New Kentucky basketball coach Mark Pope continues to build a roster for the 2024-25 season, courting transfers from many different teams. At the same time, he has been working to put together a coaching staff. On Wednesday, he made a splash in that regard, hiring top Baylor assistant Alvin Brooks III.

Brooks has been at Baylor with Scott Drew, who Kentucky tried to hire, for the past eight seasons. He has been an important member of his staff, and more importantly, an important part of Baylor’s recruiting team.

Many people consider Brooks one of the best assistant coaches in all of college basketball. Luring him to Lexington to coach the Wildcats is a big win for Pope.

Pope has put together a good staff in a short amount of time. Brooks joins the recently hired Cody Fueger, Josh Hart, and Mark Fox on the staff. They’re a solid group of recruiters, which will serve them well as Kentucky tries to assemble a roster capable of competing next year.
