In recent days, Houston Rockets center Alperen Sengun made it clear his thoughts are with his homeland, Turkey, where a devastating earthquake hit near the Turkish-Syrian border.
“The pain we experience is indescribable,” Sengun tweeted. “My prayers, my heart is with our citizens who were affected by the earthquake in Kahramanmaraş… R.I.P. to those who lost their lives, I wish a speedy recovery to the injureds. #PrayForTurkey”
Now, the 20-year-old is using his platform to take further action. On Saturday, Sengun launched a relief drive featuring game-worn memorabilia and an upcoming game experience. He writes:
Join me in helping the people in my home country of Turkey. I’m auctioning off game worn jerseys of me and my teammates and a game experience to raise money for earthquake relief. Click “auction” at the top of the page to bid on each item.
All proceeds will go to Ahbap, a Turkish organization that is working in the earthquake torn areas to help families with food, water and basic needs. To learn more about Ahbap or donate directly, please visit this link: https://ahbap.org/.
