Allen Robinson has made it clear that he wants to remain a Chicago Bear for the long-term. And you’d assume that Bears general manager Ryan Pace would feel the same, especially given that Robinson was the best part of Chicago’s offense last season.
But according to Robinson, who appeared on ESPN 1000’s Carmen and Jurko show, there haven’t been any discussions about an extension.
“They haven’t. We haven’t heard nothing,” Robinson said, via NBC Sports Chicago. “I think just as far as me and my agent, from a the conversations that we’ve had, we’re not necessarily anticipating hearing anything at this point. For us, we’re going into camp preparing ourselves to have a good year. If that comes up and they reach out to my agent, I’m sure they’ll have pretty good discussions and things like that, but again, that hasn’t happened yet. Maybe it will happen. I can’t predict the future, so I don’t know if that will happen at all. For myself, with this being my second time going into a contract year, I know how to mentally prepare myself and I know how to block all that out.”
But perhaps it’s not time to hit the panic button just yet. With the current state of things and the fact that it’s the dead part of the season ahead of training camp, this isn’t a red flag just yet. Especially given Pace has a penchant of extending players closer to the start of the season.
Now, if the same can be said ahead of the start of the regular season, it would definitely be something to keep an eye on.
Robinson signed a three-year, $42 million contract with the Bears back in 2018, and he’s been a focal point of Chicago’s offense. Last season, Robinson thrived in spite of the Bears’ abysmal offense, which made what he accomplished all the more impressive. He had a career-best 98 receptions for 1,147 yards and seven touchdowns.
