Since they were both among the game’s best guards at the same time, Allen Iverson and Steve Nash never played together. Though, they definitely saw plenty of one another over the years, entering the league at the same time in 1996 and competing against each other until 2009-10 (Iverson’s last year in the NBA).
So, while Nash was “a headache” for Iverson “’cause he could do it all,” the Philadelphia 76ers legend also learned quite a bit about the person who is now the head coach of the Brooklyn Nets during their run in the NBA.
And Iverson could not be more excited for his fellow Hall of Fame guard.
“I knew it with Steve Nash,” Iverson said on All the Smoke when discussing the Nets’ recent hiring. “I knew it ’cause he has so much to offer to out sport. ‘Cause he’s excellent. He’s a great person. I never had the luxury of being around him a lot, but just hearing stories from other guys. Just a beautiful man. I wanna see him succeed in the situation that he’s in with those two great players with all the other guys that they got around their team. It’s a recipe for greatness.
“Shoutout to you, Steve. I wanna see you do great, man. I wanna see you be a legendary Gregg Popovich, Larry Brown-type influence in people’s lives like they were to me.”
Iverson also added that Nash and former New Jersey Nets guard Stephon Marbury gave him “the most problems” during their playing days.
