There are some plays in NBA history that are just iconic. The minute somebody even brings up just a name, mostly everyone has a specific play they go to.
When it comes to Allen Iverson and Tyronn Lue, people will immediately go to Game 1 of the 2001 NBA Finals when Iverson led the Philadelphia 76ers to a victory over the Los Angeles Lakers. In the process, he delivered a clutch bucket over tough defense by Lue and then proceeded to step over him. The video gets replayed over and over again and it’s one of those iconic plays in the history of basketball.
However, Iverson is not a fan of the play. He sat down with former NBA players Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson of “All The Smoke” to discuss the play and why he doesn’t like it being replayed over and over again.
Iverson:
You know what’s so crazy? I don’t like it. Because I love him. He was giving so many problems. He was harrassing me, a straight dog and he was harrassing me so much. What’s so crazy is that I don’t know how it happened…like the moment and the feeling, like when I stepped over him, I didn’t know I did it. Then they try to get me to mimic the [expletive] years later, like, I don’t even know how to do it…you don’t know when you’re going to do something. You don’t know the emotions in the game or what goes on…that moment, yeah it was dope when you look back on it, but I don’t like it.
Anybody who has not seen the play–how could you not?–can see it here. What is funny about the whole situation is that Lue is currently in the running for the Sixers coaching vacancy. If Lue is indeed hired, one can count on a lot more Iverson appearances at the Wells Fargo Center in the future. [lawrence-related id=37897,37891,37884]
