All-American wide receiver Marcus Harris discusses offer from Vols

All-American wide receiver Marcus Harris discusses his offer from Tennessee. Harris is a four-star wide receiver in the class of 2025.

Tennessee offered a scholarship to four-star wide receiver Marcus Harris on March 3.

The 6-foot-1, 175-pound wide receiver is from Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, California. He earned second-team MaxPreps Sophomore All-American honors last season.

“It means a lot to receiver this offer,” Harris told Vols Wire regarding his offer to Tennessee. “I’ve been wanting this offer for a minute now. They have great football culture and fans. I love putting on a show for the fans.”

Harris has not scheduled a visit to Tennessee yet, but plans to make the trip to Knoxville this summer.

“I plan on getting there (Tennessee) soon,” Harris said about his plan to visit Tennessee this summer. “I don’t have a date yet, but you will for sure see me out there this summer.”

He has developed a relationship with offensive coordinator Joey Halzle, but is looking to build a connection with head coach Josh Heupel and wide receivers coach Kelsey Pope moving forward.

“I haven’t really been able to speak with the coaches, but I’ve spoken to Coach Halzle,” he said. “When I plan a visit I will talk to all the coaches, including Coach Pope and Coach Heupel.”

Building relationships with the coaching staff are important to Harris and his upcoming collegiate decision.

“The most important factors for me are going somewhere I know I can get developed from the high school level to college,” Harris said about the biggest factors in his recruitment. “I’m always trying to get better at my craft and I always want to get better. Another factor is the coaching staff being real family oriented. I want to have a second family when I have to leave my family for college. I just want to feel the love, that’s all.”

Harris is confident in his ability to fit into the offensive scheme for the Vols. He ended his sophomore season with 644 receiving yards and 12 receiving touchdowns for the Monarchs.

“I see myself fitting pretty good into their offensive scheme,” he continued. “I could envision myself there. One thing that they do is pass a lot and they always have good quarterbacks. From what I saw (in 2022), they love to go deep. I’m one of those guys who loves to go deep.”

Tennessee is one of the top programs in Harris’ recruitment right now.

“Tennessee is for sure in my top-10 as of right now,” Harris concluded.

Harris holds over 15 Power Five offers, including Georgia, Texas, Michigan, Colorado and Auburn.
