All-American pitcher Ruby Meylan enters transfer portal

The Washington Huskies’ best player, pitcher Ruby Meylan, is reportedly entering the transfer portal

Coach Heather Tarr was dealt a major blow on Thursday afternoon when Justin McLeod of D1Softball.com reported that Washington Huskies star pitcher Ruby Meylan has entered the transfer portal.

Meylan became a star immediately upon her arrival in Seattle, posting an 18-7 record with a 2.14 ERA with 204 strikeouts over 180 innings and an extremely impressive .215 batting average against (BAA) during her freshman season. She was named to the All-Pac-12 and NFCA All-Pacific Region first teams for her efforts and the NFCA’s Third Team All-America.

While her numbers took a slight step back during her sophomore season, the Omaha, Nebraska native was still an extremely reliable arm for Tarr. Meylan finished with a 9-10 record and a 2.55 ERA after working 123 1/3 innings with 139 strikeouts.

For the second consecutive year, she was named to the All-Pac-12 and NFCA All-Pacific Region first teams, as well as the NFCA’s Third Team All-America.

With two years of eligibility remaining, Meylan will be one of the most sought-after players in the portal. After freshman Sidne Peters entered the portal on Wednesday, the Huskies will need to find some experience for their 2025 rotation, which at the moment only holds signee Morgan Reimer.
