LAS VEGAS – [autotag]Alexa Grasso[/autotag]’s hefty weight miss has caused her fight against [autotag]Claudia Gadelha[/autotag] to be pulled from the UFC 246 lineup.
Grasso (11-3 MMA, 3-3 UFC) weighed 121.5 pounds at Friday’s official weigh-ins, which is 5.5 pounds over the non-title strawweight limit. As a result, the Nevada Athletic Commission ruled her ineligible to compete.
After Gadelha (17-4 MMA, 6-4 UFC) made weight and Grasso came in over, Jeff Mullen from the NSAC informed reporters that due to the six-pound discrepancy, the fight could not be approved.
According to Mullen, there can only be a three-pound gap in weight for a bout originally scheduled for strawweight.
“The differential between Claudia and Alexa was six pounds,” Mullen said. “At that weight class there’s only a three-pound weight differential allowance. It was six pounds. So, in consultation with our legal counsel, we could not allow her to fight. Also, there was some other issues that we had, some medical issues. So, she will not be allowed to fight.
