Alex Smith named the starting QB for Washington going forward

With Kyle Allen out, Rivera confirmed that it would be Alex Smith, not Dwayne Haskins, as the QB1 going forward.

After starting QB Kyle Allen was knocked out of the game with a dislocated ankle, ending his 2020 season, there was some speculation as to who would be the starting quarterback for Washington going forward beyond this game. Alex Smith was the guy on Sunday, but there is also Dwayne Haskins who could come in and play as well.

Ron Rivera put an end to the speculation immediately after the game, saying that it is Smith’s job going forward.

Smith played well on Sunday, though his three interceptions did end up costing Washington the game. Still, he was able to move the ball downfield and connect with receivers, which was encouraging to see.
