Details on Alex Mack’s three-year contract with the 49ers show a relatively team-friendly deal that won’t tie the team up for more than a year.

Over the Cap reports the deal is for three years and worth up to $14.85 million with $5.6 million guaranteed. He’s due all of his guaranteed money in Year 1, and parting ways with the 35-year-old after this season wouldn’t be expensive should the 49ers need to go another direction.

In 2022 Mack comes with a $2.45 million dead money hit and $4.275 million in savings. Should they keep him on the roster he’s due for a $6.725 million cap hit. The following year his dead money drops to $1.255 million and the savings dip to $3.85 million, while his cap hit if he stays falls to $5.075 million.

Having a three-year deal gives the 49ers a ton of flexibility to either retain Mack’s services or part ways without handicapping themselves against the salary cap.

Either way, even in his mid-30s Mack will provide an upgrade in the middle of the 49ers’ offensive line. If a three-year deal was what it was going to take to land his services, it’s well worth it for a team that struggled at that position for portions of the last two years.
