With Grand Touring Prototype not on the card for the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship race at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park, some drivers have been freed up to step into other classes. Filipe Albuquerque will be one of those, strapping into the No. 22 United Autosports ORECA LMP2 entry for the Chevrolet Grand Prix on July 14.
Albuquerque, who won GTP at Detroit with Ricky Taylor in the No. 10 Wayne Taylor Racing with Andretti Acura ARX-06, is no stranger to United Autosports LMP2 cars. He’s competed with the team in World Endurance Championship races in the past and most recently at the 24 Hours of Le Mans with Ben Keating and Ben Hanley. He’ll be partnering with Dan Goldburg while Goldburg’s regular co-driver, Paul di Resta, is racing for Peugeot in the WEC round in Brazil.

“I am really looking forward to race in Mosport with United,” says Albuquerque. “We will be racing for the overall victory. I had the chance to meet Daniel [Goldburg] already and we had a great feeling. On top of that, I got a nice warm up at Le Mans to get back into the LMP2. We want to fight for the win, for sure.”
United Autosports is in its first full season with a two-car LMP2 effort in the Weather-Tech Championship. While still looking for its first victory, the team scored the LMP2 win at Le Mans with Oliver Jarvis, Bijoy Garg and Nolan Siegel. At CTMP, they’ll be looking for not only an LMP2 victory, but an overall win.
“It’s always a pleasure to race with Filipe,” said United Autosports CEO, Richard Dean. “So with Paul fulfilling his commitments with Peugeot in the WEC, it was an easy choice. Filipe is super quick, reliable and a fantastic mentor for other drivers. I’m sure Daniel will learn a lot from him in Canada. Sadly, the 24 Hours of Le Mans didn’t go to plan for Filipe and the United Autosports No. 23 LMP2 crew this year, so this is our opportunity to celebrate victory together in 2024.”
