Coach Heather Tarr and the Washington Huskies lost another major contributor on Friday evening when D1Softball’s Justin McLeod reported that sophomore right fielder Alana Johnson entered the transfer portal.
Johnson was Washington’s best power threat and run producer in her second season, starting 47 games while leading the team with 13 home runs and 40 runs batted in. She posted a .336 batting average and also tallied a team-high 97 total bases.
She leaves Washington with a .301 career batting average, 20 home runs, 62 RBI, and a .611 slugging percentage. Now, the Huskies should ask 2024 signee Addie Craig, a product of Mount Si High School in nearby Snohomish, to step into a bigger role in her inaugural season due to Johnson’s departure.
With Johnson’s entry and the graduation of Brooke Nelson and Jillian Celis, Tarr’s top six RBI producers from the 2024 season will not return for 2025.
As the Huskies prepare for life in the Big Ten, where they should be one of the better softball programs in the conference, Tarr’s coaching staff has a lot of work to do to upgrade the roster.
Alana Johnson becomes the 6th Washington Husky to enter the transfer portal.
Seven players on the 2024 UW roster currently remain (departures include 4-member graduation class).
