Perhaps no world premiere at the 2021 Game Awards made a splash quite like Alan Wake 2.
Not only because Remedy is such a beloved studio, but due to the fact that the original Alan Wake came out a decade ago. For years, a follow-up struggled to come into fruition for a whole slew of reasons. Now, through a publishing partnership with Epic Games, Alan Wake 2 is finally happening.
Not much is known about Alan Wake 2 yet in terms of how it’ll play or what platforms it’ll be on. However, Remedy creative director Sam Lake is promising a spooky-good time.
“[It’s been] 10 years of wanting to make [Alan Wake 2], dreaming of making it, we’ve been iterating on the concept, and we know fans have been asking for it,” Lake said during the Game Awards broadcast. “We’re breaking new ground here. This is going to be Remedy’s first-ever survival horror game — our take on the genre. The first game had horror elements to it, but it was an action game.”

Lake insists that Alan Wake 2 will be psychological horror with that distinct Remedy flavor. Good timing, as another survival horror title Slitterhead was announced just a few hours before.
