Alabama won the opening series of Southeastern Conference play, 2-1, against the Vols.
AJ Russell started for the Vols and pitched two innings and recorded two strikeouts. He totaled 40 pitches, including 28 strikes, against eight batters.
Nate Snead (4-1) pitched 5.1 innings in relief for Tennessee and recorded two strikeouts.
The Vols totaled 10 hits to Alabama’s 11. Tennessee did not hit a home run in the contest. Dylan Dreiling led the Vols with four RBIs.
Tennessee will next play Xavier on Tuesday at Lindsey Nelson Stadium. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m. EDT and can be watched on SEC Network+.
