Alabama prospect Caleb Smith has caught Washington’s attention

The Washington Huskies coaching staff is keeping a close eye on defensive lineman Caleb Smith, a prospect well outside the school’s normal recruiting footprint.

The Washington Huskies are leaving no stone unturned in their quest to find high school defensive linemen in the 2025 class. Defensive line coach Jason Kaufusi has waded into Alabama on multiple occasions to offer prospects, one of which is set to take a trip to Seattle during the coaching staff’s biggest weekend of official visits.

Three-star defensive lineman Caleb Smith, a product of Parker High School in Birmingham, Alabama will be among the 15 visitors set to descend on Montlake for the May 31 weekend, signaling that the coaching staff has made him a priority target.

Listed at 6-foot-5 and 265 pounds, Smith lines up on the edge in high school but has a projectable frame that would easily support a move to the interior at the next level. He plays with great eye discipline and as a run defender, he consistently disrupts runs with a combination of power and IQ, which should translate well to the next level.

He holds 21 offers and also has official visits set with Oklahoma State, Georgia Tech, and Purdue in June. If he were to commit to Washington, he would be an intriguing addition to the class that would continue to increase the school’s footprint as coach Jedd Fisch has tried his best to expand UW’s footprint as the Huskies move into the Big Ten.
