Alabama loss knocks Gators down a peg in NET rankings update

Predictably, Florida fell a few spots in the NET rankings update following the blowout road loss to ‘Bama.

Florida basketball faced a tough opponent on Wednesday night in the third-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide and predictably came away with a road loss inside Coleman Coliseum as the hosts spanked the visitors to the tune of a 97-69 final score. Colin Castleton led all scorers with 29 points but ‘Bama was just too much for the Gators overall.

The NET rankings had Florida at No. 42 before the game, but following the defeat, Todd Golden’s team slid down to No. 46. Now holding a 13-11 record overall along with a 6-5 mark in Southeastern Conference play, the Gators are 2-9 in Quadrant 1 competition, 1-2 in Quad 2, 6-0 in Quad 3 and 4-0 in Quad 4 games. Alabama moved up a spot to No. 2 following its Quad 2 win over UF.

Next up for the Orange and Blue are the Vanderbilt Commodores, who travel to Gainesville to take on the Gators inside the O’Connell Center on Saturday, Feb. 11. Vandy is currently ranked No. 97 in the NET and represents a Quad 3 matchup for Florida. Tipoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. EST and the game can be followed by either watching the SEC Network or listening on the Gator Sports Network.
