Alabama hoops debuts at No. 2 in the first AP Poll of the year

Nine members of the SEC ranked in first basketball AP Poll of the year.

The start of the 2024-25 college basketball season is right around the corner as the Alabama Crimson Tide are set to tip off against the UNC Asheville Bulldogs on November 4.

For Nate Oats and his Crimson Tide squad, the expectations have never been higher as Alabama is coming off of its first-ever Final Four appearance. Unfortunately, they ran into a loaded UConn team in the semi-finals, because any other year Alabama was deep enough to win the tournament.

With Mark Sears and Grant Nelson returning to the lineup as well as a flurry of portal additions, the Crimson Tide are as good top to bottom as anyone in the country.

Today, the AP Poll released its first rankings of the season where Alabama debuted at No. 2 behind only Kansas and one spot ahead of the back-to-back defending champion UConn Huskies.

The poll views the SEC as one of the strongest conferences in the country ranking eight other teams: No. 11 Auburn, No. 12 Tennessee, No. Texas A&M, No. 16 Arkansas, No. 19 Texas, No. 21 Florida, No. 23 Kentucky and No. 24 Ole Miss.
