Atop the SEC this season are two teams that are expected to compete for the conference title and a national championship every season: Alabama and Georgia. One team is undefeated and ranks No. 1 in the country, while the other suffered an early-season home loss and just recently returned to the top 10.
The Crimson Tide looks to compete for national title No. 19 after not having won one since the 2020 season. The Dawgs, on the other hand, are seeking a third-consecutive national championship.
Though both teams appear far apart when it comes to where they’ll end up in the postseason, ESPN’s College Football Playoff Predictor gives both programs around a 30% chance to reach the playoffs. Alabama is exactly at 30%, while Georgia is at 31%.
Why is this? Well, it has to do with the fact that other conferences are having very strong seasons. there’s a chance every Power 5 conference finishes the season with an undefeated champion. The problem is that there are only four available spots in the CFP… for now.
It will likely all come down to the SEC Championship game in Atalanta to determine which of the two teams, if any, make it to the College Football Playoff.
