Since the BCS era departed college football back in 2013, it almost feels like an entirely new sport. From the Playoff to the introduction of NIL, it is very much a business now. As a whole, I believe the changes will be good for the sport as it makes for a much more intriguing product on a week-to-week basis.
The Alabama Crimson Tide were rolling under Nick Saban, but new head coach Kalen DeBoer is the perfect fit for this new era of CFB. DeBoer is obviously a phenomenal coach in his own right, but his ability to hire the right people for his staff is maybe his greatest asset. When transitioning from the Washington Huskies, DeBoer brought over several very important people including Nick Sheridan, JaMarcus Shephard and Courtney Morgan.
All three of those guys will play a massive role for the Crimson Tide in 2024, but arguably none more than GM Courtney Morgan.
As a “general manager,” Morgan is responsible for many things, but his main role is overseeing the Alabama personnel. He’s been crucial for DeBoer’s operation on both the recruiting trail as well as in the transfer portal.
The USC Trojans approached Morgan this off-season for a similar role in Los Angeles, but Alabama offered a new deal for three-years worth $825,0000 annually making him college football’s highest-paid front office figure.
Alabama and its star GM Courtney Morgan have agreed to a new three-year deal that will average about $825,000 per year, sources tell @247sports/@CBSSports.
