Alabama Baseball lands Louisville transfer pitcher Greg Farone

Louisville transfer pitcher Greg Farone recently announced that he was transferring to Alabama. Farone was the named the 2022 NJCAA Player of the Year during his time at Herkimer College.

The Alabama baseball team received some good news on Wednesday. Louisville transfer pitcher Greg Farone announced that he was transferring to Alabama. He made the news official via X, formerly known as Twitter.

Farone began his college career at Herkimer College. The Generals compete in Division III of the NJCAA (National Junior College Athletic Association). Farone spent two seasons in Herkimer.

He finished his junior college career with a 13-0 record and a 1.83 ERA. In 103 innings pitched, Farone allowed just 21 earned runs.

Following his sophomore season, Farone was named the NJCAA Division III Player of the Year and the NJCAA Division III Pitcher of the Year. Not to mention, Farone also helped the Generals win its first national title in program history.

After the conclusion of his junior college years, Farone would transfer to Louisville. He chose the Cardinals over Mississippi State and Clemson. In one season at Louisville, Farone finished with a 1-4 record and a 4.80 ERA. He was primarily used as a reliever but did make six starts for the Cardinals. In 50.2 innings of work, he allowed 27 earned runs while striking out 65 batters.

Farone is a lefty that can be used as a starter or as a reliever. That is something that the Alabama coaching staff was looking for in the transfer portal. Farone will bring versatility and experience to the Alabama bullpen in 2023.
