Al Horford will not play for Sixers tonight against Celtics

Sixers forward Al Horford will not be making his anticipated return to Boston Thursday night as he is hampered by knee soreness.

Former Celtics forward Al Horford will not make his anticipated return to Boston Thursday night as he has been ruled out by the Philadelphia 76ers.

The 33-year-old popped up on the injury report earlier on Thursday after undergoing treatment for what the team is calling a sore left knee and tight left hamstring.

Horford went through shootaround this morning and tested things pregame, but just didn’t feel well enough to give it a go. It certainly appears he made every effort to play, so it’s unfortunate he won’t be able to participate in what is a bit of an extra special night.

Horford expressed disappointment in missing Thursday’s game, noting that he’s not sure what to expect from the home crowd but that it’s all love on his end.

The former Celtic is averaging 13.8 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 3.9 assists for the Sixers this season.

His absence puts a bit of a damper on things, but the game still holds about as much importance as an early-December game can. The historic rivals are currently tied four games behind the East-leading Bucks and jockeying for early position in the conference. Of course, the Celtics are also looking at a revenge game after losing to the Sixers by double-figures on opening night. [lawrence-related id=26078,26067]
