The Philadelphia 76ers are a team that is expected to make some type of move in this upcoming offseason. With Daryl Morey now leading the team’s basketball operations, it is almost a foregone conclusion that he will do something.
The biggest issue with this team right now is spacing. The team is trying to work their way and build a title contender around stars Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid, but in order to do that, there needs to be proper spacing in order for them to operate.
One big move the team made in the 2019 offseason was bringing in Al Horford on a 4-year $109 million deal as the team expected him to team up with Embiid to form a fearsome duo down low. Unfortunately, the fit was disastrous on the offensive end all season and it became very apparent that the team needs to move him and find a better fit.
Over at HoopsHype, they have put together a list of the player most likely to be traded on each team and Horford popped up for Philadelphia:
Horford has fit next to Joel Embiid like a square peg in a round hole. Philadelphia would need to include multiple future first-round picks and possibly Josh Richardson to make it worthwhile for another team to absorb his $27.5 million salary for next season.
Trading Horford on paper is a daunting task for the 76ers, but that doesn’t mean they won’t try.
In order to move a guy like Horford, the Sixers will have to attach something that is valuable to his huge contract. Something that holds value like a young player or maybe a draft pick in order to make the right move going forward. It certainly will be tough to move him, but if anybody can do it, it’s Morey as he has a history of pulling off bold moves. [lawrence-related id=39200,39197,39191]
