Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver A,J. Green provided fans a scare Monday at training camp, getting checked out by trainers before head coach Zac Taylor shut him down.
Taylor later admitted ending Green’s day was precautionary and it was clear from the star wideout and others that No. 18 planned to be on the field for the first day of fully-padded practices Tuesday.
That didn’t happen.
According to Tyler Dragon of the Cincinnati Enquirer, Green was present but didn’t have pads on during practice: “A.J. Green is at practice but he isn’t wearing pads. It appears the coaches are giving him a day off after he tweaked his hamstring.”
Taylor and Bengals coaches can be forgiven for being overly cautious with Green given his injury history. Add in the fact both John Ross and Tee Higgins have been absent from drills, forcing a surprise name like Mike Thomas to step up.
