A.J. Brown trade, extension sets table for Seahawks WR D.K. Metcalf

That’s big news for the Seattle Seahawks, who are set to give their own stud receiver an extension at some point this year.

One of the biggest surprises during the first round of the 2022 NFL draft last night was a blockbuster trade. The Tennessee Titans sent their star wide receiver A.J. Brown to the Philadelphia Eagles, who promptly agreed to a four-year, $100 million deal with their new WR1.

That’s big news for the Seattle Seahawks, who are set to give their own stud receiver an extension at some point this year. In the wake of Russell Wilson getting traded to the Denver Broncos, D.K. Metcalf is now the undisputed best player and athlete on the team. Better yet, at just 24 years old, Metcalf’s best football days are still ahead of him.

While we believe Metcalf ultimately has more upside than Brown, this new contract with Philadelphia will likely be the template used for Metcalf’s representatives during their negotiations with Seattle’s front office whenever they begin. (Coach Pete Carroll says the team has not directly addressed DK’s deal as of yet.) Not only are Brown and Metcalf from the same 2019 draft class, they have the same agent.

Whatever the final number ends up being – we’re betting somewhere between $25 million and $27.5 million per season – Metcalf should be worth every penny.
