The Tennessee Titans have been known to take chances on players in the NFL draft who are coming off injury, and the same approach can’t be ruled out in this year’s draft.

In 2019, Robinson took a swing at defensive lineman Jeffery Simmons, who has proven to be a great pick. In 2021, Robinson drafted cornerback Caleb Farley, but the jury is still very much out on him.

When asked about a pair of Alabama receivers who are coming off injury, John Metchie and Jameson Williams, Robinson went into detail about the process of making such a decision, per Jim Wyatt of Titans Online.

“But those are some of the harder discussions we have, is the risk-reward of the player,” Robinson said. “Knowing that, and with those two players (Williams and Metchie) specifically, the timing of that injury and how much of the season they are going to miss and not have those guys, relatives to the dividends that they might bring to your football team.”

Wide receiver A.J. Brown got a hold of Robinson’s comments pertaining to injured players and voiced his support for the Titans drafting Williams or Metchie.

Metchie and Williams suffered a torn ACL in 2021. Before that, both were considered two of the better wide receivers in college football, but there’s no question the aforementioned injuries will hurt their draft stock.

The Titans need to add depth at the position during the offseason, but they also need to start planning for the future at the position with Julio Jones already being long in the tooth.

Metchie and Williams certainly come with some risk, but either one could end up being a great value pick depending on where they land in the 2022 NFL draft.
