A familiar face comes back to the Academy
The Air Force Falcons basketball team found its new head coach and they are bringing back one of their more successful coaches in Joe Scott. Scott most recently has spend the past two seasons at Georgia as an assistant coach.
“I am pleased to welcome Joe Scott back to the Air Force Academy to lead our men’s basketball program,” director athletics Nathan Pine said in a released statement. “Joe is a person of strong character and a leader who will continue to represent our core values at Air Force.
“He is also a championship-caliber coach who understands the Academy, what we stand for and he knows as well as anyone how to be successful here. Coach Scott is a gifted teacher with a passion for the sport of basketball and developing young men into leaders, he is the perfect person to reenergize our men’s basketball program.”

Scott really does understand the Air Force Academy as he was on the sidelines as one of the best single seasons ever for the Falcons back in 2003. He won the Mountain West, went to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in 41 years, named league coach of the year, and they were in the top 25.
After that year, Scott left for his alma matter to become the head coach at Princeton for a three-year stint before coming back out West to coach the University of Denver for nine years.
Having someone with experience coaching at Air Force Academy is a huge plus and maybe Scott can bring back some of that magic he had around 15 years ago. Even if he can bring back even some of that success then this hire would be considered a home run.
