Texas A&M (17-11, 3-6 SEC) finally got back on some sort of healthy footing after winning their first SEC series of the season, defeating the defending National Champion Ole Miss Rebels 2 games to 1, culminating with a 5-4 victory on Sunday after junior DH Ryan Targac hit a game-winning home run in the bottom of the 9th.
After their successful weekend, Texas A&M didn’t quite make their way back to the Top 25 in the newest USA TODAY Sports coaches poll but did receive 21 votes, hopefully, a positive sign going forward.
From a momentum perspective, winning their first conference series removes a ton of weight from their collective shoulders, while the offense has been heating up ahead of their big road series vs. Auburn starting Thursday, a couple days after their midweek Tuesday contest vs. Texas State.
However, the Aggies are also coming off a previous four-game losing streak after being swept by Tennessee, and losing a midweek contest vs. Texas last Tuesday, mainly due to highly problematic pitching performances from the starting rotation and the bullpen, putting even more pressure on pitching coach Nate Yeskie to work through the chaos and finally find a rotation that sticks, and most of all produce results.
The Aggies will travel to The Plains to face the Auburn Tigers Thursday through Saturday for a three-game SEC series. Thursday’s 7:00 pm matchup will air on the SEC Network, and A&M’s starting pitchers for the first two games will be announced later this week.
