The Texas A&M baseball team took their mid-week matchup over Texas 12-9 on Tuesday, and then journeyed to Tuscaloosa, AL for a weekend series against the Crimson Tide of Alabama.
Nathan Dettmore got the ball in the series opener, and did not disappoint. He tossed 6 and a third innings and gave up only 1 earned run while striking out 7 Tide batters.
Alabama opened the scoring early in the 2nd inning, on an RBI double by right fielder Adam Pinckney. Dettmore was able to get out of the inning without further damage, and the Aggies were able to answer with a run of their own on a Brett Minnich double in the 4th.
The 1-1 score held until the top of the 6th when Minnich hit a two run homer down the right field line to put A&M up 3-1. The Tide would muster one more run in the bottom of the 7th when Dettmore issued back to back one out walks before leaving the game with two on and one out. Jacob Palisch came on in relief of Dettmore and struck out the first batter he faced before committing a fielding error that loaded the bases. He then walked the next batter to allow the tide to score their second run of the game. Chris Cortez came in for Palisch, and quickly induced a ground ball out to shut down the Tide rally, and ultimately give A&M the important series opening win.
