History has been made, and a top ranking has been earned by the hard work and relentless effort of Texas A&M women’s tennis star Mary Stoiana.
Stoiana has sealed her name in the Texas A&M record books as the university’s first women’s tennis player to be ranked No. 1 in the nation. The Connecticut native arrived in Bryan-College Station in 2021 and has been on a tear since suiting up in the Maroon & White.
After a stellar freshman campaign where she earned multiple honors, including being named to the All-SEC freshman, she doubled down with an even better sophomore year. Below is just a snip-it of the accolades collected last year as she rose through the rankings:
- SEC Player of the Year (2023)
- ITA All-American Singles (2023)
- All-SEC First Team (2023)
- 7x SEC Player of the Week in 2023, the most in a single season in conference history
