PHILADELPHIA — The Philadelphia 76ers are in the midst of an adjustment period as they prepare for the arrival of James Harden. Bringing in one of the elite players in the game is going to disrupt a number of things the Sixers want to do.
On one hand, Harden will continue to be an elite scorer and an elite playmaker on offense. That should make life easier for everybody, including Tobias Harris who, even with Harden’s arrival, will remain a very important piece of what the Sixers want to do.
Harris had a tough go against the Boston Celtics on Tuesday. He took only three shots in the first half and finished with only seven shots for the game. He finished with only seven points.
The Sixers will need Harris to get back into a groove; they tried to get him going in the loss to Boston.
“We ran stuff,” said coach Doc Rivers. “They did a good job, he had a bunch of ISOs, I think we ran three plays in a row where he had (Payton) Pritchard on the switch. Those are the ones you try to punish. We didn’t do it, so we gotta get him going though. He’s gonna be key for us. Tobias will be key for our success.”
Harden said he is ready to help Harris grow his game on the offensive end and he acknowledged Harris can average 20 points a night. He is averaging 18.6 points.
For the Sixers to succeed, they will need Harden and Joel Embiid to get it going, but Harris must be a key third option during a playoff run.
