Arkansas Baseball’s [autotag]Connor Noland[/autotag] has carried his weight in the NCAA Tournament.
In four appearances this postseason, Noland is 3-0 with 11 strikeouts, six earned runs, and seven walks in 22.2 innings of work. In his last start, Noland tossed 7.2 innings, where he allowed just two runs on six hits with 79 total pitches. He was also the pitcher of record, earning his 8th win of the season.
As Arkansas exited the field with the 17-2 win over Stanford on Saturday, Noland joined an elite company by accomplishing a rare feat.
With Arkansas’ win in the College World Series opener, Noland became the 4th student-athlete to ever start and win a College World Series game, as well as a College Football game in Division 1 history.
Razorback Communications tweeted the interesting stat following Saturday’s game, stating that Noland joins Texas‘ James Street, Texas A&M‘s Jeff Granger, and Tennessee‘s Todd Helton as the only people to ever accomplish the feat.
Noland played one season for Arkansas Football, where he appeared in four games during his freshman season in 2018. He earned one start against Tulsa, where he led the Razorbacks to a 23-0 win on homecoming. In the game, Noland completed 10-of-16 passes for 124 yards and a touchdown.
In the same academic year, Noland started 19 games for Arkansas Baseball, where he held a 3-5 record and a 4.02 ERA with 55 strikeouts to just 14 walks.
