After Bellator 258 win over one ‘Pitbull’ brother, Peter Queally turns attention to champ Patricio

“He needs to fight me now, and we need to settle this.”

UNCASVILLE, Conn. – With one “Pitbull” brother down, [autotag]Peter Queally[/autotag] is ready for the other one.

Queally emerged victorious against Patricky Freire on Friday night at Mohegan Sun Arena after the cageside doctor stopped their lightweight bout because of a cut near Freire’s hairline that bled profusely. The result disappointed some fans and media because of how close the fight appeared to be heading into the third round.

One person who certainly was unhappy: Patricio Freire, the reigning Bellator 155-pound champion and other “Pitbull” brother. After the fight was waved off, he and Queally exchanged words.

During his post-fight news conference, Queally recounted what was said and also sent a message to Patricio.

“He was trying to claim it was an illegal elbow that (caused) the cut, but this is nonsense,” Queally told reporters. “I think he was just angry that I’d just beaten his brother, which is fine, but don’t be lying. I understand your emotional and things. But there’s something you can do if you’re angry about it – and that’s fight me. And that’s what he should do now.

“If he wants to back up and protect his name, he needs to fight me now and settle this thing. It’s one all. They beat my brother – he’s like my brother – Pedro Carvalho. Fair play to him, very tough guy, he knocked him out (in the lightweight grand prix), so I respect him for this. But I beat his brother fair and square now. That’s one-all Pitbull Brothers, one-all SBG. He needs to fight me now, and we need to settle this.”

The fight-ending cut was the result of a massive elbow absorbed by Patricky (23-10 MMA, 14-8 BMMA) after he took down Queally (13-5-1 MMA, 2-1 BMMA), who didn’t stop striking from bottom position on both of Patricky’s successful attempts.

For anyone questioning the worth of his win, Queally said he thought he “narrowly” won the first round and “for sure” won the second before the fight was stopped.

In the end, Queally said the fight played out as he expected, and he believes he beat Patricky at his own game.

“I thought he would come after me and really want the fight and give me the fight I wanted. And he did, fair play to him,” Queally said. “But I knew I would be better than him at this kind of fight. I’m one of the very few people that can beat the ‘Pitbull’ brothers at their own game, which is biting down on the gum shield and going after each other. This is exactly how I thought it would go.”

Queally now has won two consecutive fights, but this was his first victory since a September 2019 finish of Ryan Scope.
