The Philadelphia 76ers made a big move on Wednesday in order to begin retooling their roster in order to get back on track following a tough 2019-20 season on the floor.
They made a big move by sending Al Horford to the Oklahoma City Thunder in order to acquire a shooter in Danny Green who will look to make a big impact on their spacing. The team signed Horford to a 4-year $109 million deal in the 2019 offseason, but his fit next to Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons was disastrous on the offensive end.
There was speculation that the Sixers would go after Chicago Bulls guard Zach LaVine. However, the addition of Green understandably puts those thoughts to bed.
According to Kyle Neubeck of The Philly Voice:
With rumors swirling about the potential for a Zach LaVine deal early in the day, there has been much speculation about what a trade for the Bulls’ perimeter-oriented scorer would take. A splash of cold water — a source tells PhillyVoice it’s not a deal the Sixers or the Bulls are currently discussing, despite some rumblings and reports to the contrary.
It makes sense that those talks are now dead. Philadelphia got rid of Horford’s contract and they also added a shooter in Green while also keeping their Round 1 pick in this 2020 draft on Wednesday. It is a solid start for new President of Basketball Operations Daryl Morey as the Sixers look to retool the roster around Simmons and Embiid. [lawrence-related id=39200,39197,39191]
