“Playoffs? Don’t talk about playoffs! You kidding me? Playoffs? I just hope we can win a game!”
Those famous words of former Indianapolis Colts coach Jim Mora from 2001 probably feel relatable to Denver Broncos fans going into Week 3 of the 2023 season.
The Broncos are 0-2, which is a terrible sign for their chances of making the playoffs. Yes, the playoffs. It might be unlikely, but Denver still has a shot of reaching the postseason, and we’ll be tracking the team’s status each week.
The quickest way to punch a postseason ticket is to win your division, and the Broncos are obviously in a hole after starting the year 0-2. Here’s a look at the AFC West standings after two weeks of play.
Team | Record | Div. | Conf. |
Las Vegas Raiders | 1-1 | 1-0 | 1-1 |
Kansas City Chiefs | 1-1 | 0-0 | 1-0 |
Denver Broncos | 0-2 | 0-1 | 0-2 |
Los Angeles Chargers | 0-2 | 0-0 | 0-2 |
Fortunately, neither the Raiders nor the Chiefs have started 2-0, so all it would take is one week of things going Denver’s way for the Broncos to be back in the race in the division.
The Broncos still have five AFC West games remaining, so it’s way too early to proclaim the season lost. Denver will face an uphill battle to get back into contention in the division, but there’s a lot of football left to play. Bring on Week 3!
