And then there were two. The first weekend of the NFL schedule saw three of the four AFC West teams win, with just the Broncos losing. Well, the Broncos lost again, to retain sole possession of last place, but the top of the division saw the Chargers drop out, leaving just the Chiefs and Raiders still at the top.
The Bolts would put up a good fight, with rookie Justin Herbert putting up an outstanding performance in his debut. They held the lead late, but as has often been the case the past couple years, Patrick Mahomes put the team on his back, bringing the Chiefs back to a tie and winning in overtime.
The consensus after that win was that the Chiefs would come out of the weekend as the only undefeated team in the division. But the Raiders would do one better, coming back from a 10-point deficit in the second quarter against the Saints to run away with the game 34-24 on Monday Night Football.
Here’s what the AFC West looks like two weeks into the season:
1T. Las Vegas Raiders (2-0)
1T. Kansas City Chiefs (2-0)
3. Los Angeles Chargers (1-1)
4. Denver Broncos (0-2)
Here is the Week 3 schedule for the AFC West teams:
Raiders at New England Patriots (1-1)
Chiefs at Baltimore Ravens (2-0)
Chargers vs Carolina Panthers (0-2)
Broncos vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1-1)
