AFC East news: Ezekiel Elliott signs with the Patriots

Zeke to the #Patriots:

One of the most well known weapons in the NFL is heading to the AFC East.

The New England Patriots have signed former two-time NFL leading rusher Ezekiel Elliott. According to Patriots Wire, it’s a one-year, $6 million deal.

Elliott was released by the Dallas Cowboys in March.

A first-round pick at No. 4 overall in 2016, Elliott is a two-time All-Pro rusher that the Buffalo Bills and rest of the division will now have to deal with twice a year.

Elliott, 28, has not led the NFL in rushing since 2018. In recent seasons he’s split carries in the Dallas backfield with Tony Pollard, however, Elliott is one two seasons removed from a 1,000-yard rushing campaign.

Like other big-name running backs, Elliott was holding out for top dollar on the free agent market before landing with the Pats. It’s currently a slow moving market for rushers in the NFL.

Elliott will team up with the likes of Rhadondre Stevenson in the New England backfield. In 2022, Stevenson averaged 9.0 and 5.4 yards per carry in his two outings against the Bills.
