Heading into the New England Patriots showdown with the Buffalo Bills on Saturday, there will be a lot of interesting subplots in the game. One of them is the matchup between Bills wide receiver Stefon Diggs and Patriots cornerback J.C. Jackson.

Diggs bested Jackson in their last matchup, as he caught six passes for 86 yards and a touchdown. Jackson held Diggs to a more subdued performance in their Monday night matchup on December 6. The wide receiver only recorded four catches for 51 yards, though both teams had quiet nights passing the football, with winds up to 70 miles per hour.

The Patriots defense will have a challenge ahead of them, as quarterback Josh Allen and the Buffalo offense were able to tally 428 total yards in their last meeting. Nevertheless, the matchup between Jackson and Diggs is something that many are looking forward to.

Safety Adrian Phillips knows that Jackson will be ready for Saturday night.

“This is exactly what he wants,” Phillips said Thursday in a video conference, via NESN.com’s Zack Cox. “He wouldn’t have it any other way. Whoever the top receiver in the league is, he wants to guard that person. When he has a chance to go out there and go against Diggs, he’s locked in. He don’t want it any other way.”

To his credit, Jackson has an interception and two pass breakups against Buffalo this season. For the Patriots and Bills, it will be strength against strength under the Saturday night lights.
