Former Vikings running back Adrian Peterson is on the verge of NFL history.

Peterson, who has 14,036 career rushing yards, needs just 66 yards to pass Curtis Martin for fifth all-time on the NFL’s rushing list.

With three games left on the schedule, this seems pretty probable.

Next up for Peterson on the list after Martin is Barry Sanders. That will take Peterson another 1,271 yards, which seems unlikely for the 34 year old, but who knows.

On the season, Peterson has ran for 718 yards, averaging 4.3 yards per carry. He’s 292 yards away from his ninth 1,000-yards season and second straight.

Next up for Peterson and the Redskins will be the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 16. The Eagles rank third in the league, allowing just 89 rushing yards per game.

Peterson is under contract for $2.25 million next season with the Redskins, but Washington can cut ties with him for a fee of $750,000.
