Aden Holloway among The Athletic’s top freshmen to watch

The Athletic’s Sam Vecenie expects Holloway to have a great season due to his relaxed nature and ability to score.

Basketball season for the Auburn Tigers is just around the corner, and one of the most exciting storylines heading into the season will be the college debut of freshman [autotag]Aden Holloway[/autotag].

Holloway was the Tigers’ lone high school signee of the 2023 cycle, but he was considered to be one of the top prospects of the class. He was the No. 16 overall player for 2023 and was the No. 3 point guard according to 247Sports. He is expected to run the point for the Tigers this season, with sophomore [autotag]Tre Donaldson[/autotag] playing a complementary role.

Not only will he be vital to Auburn’s success this season, he will be one of the top freshmen in college basketball according to a list from The Athletic.

The Athletic’s Sam Vecenie lists Holloway as one of the six freshmen to watch this season. Vecenie is excited to watch Holloway develop and says that his ability to score will pave the way for a successful season.

“If I had to pick one other freshman guard outside of (DJ) Wagner and (Isaiah) Collier to have a huge season, it would be Holloway. I loved the skills and polish I saw from him at Hoop Summit in Portland in April. He plays at a relaxed, comfortable cadence that allows him to read the court and make good decisions. But more than anything, what drives his play is his ability to score. He’s one of those guys that you have to be ready to contest from the moment he gets within 30 feet due to how fluid his pull-up game is.”

Holloway and the Auburn Tigers will have the chance to face two of the six freshmen on Vecenie’s list. Auburn will face Kentucky and guard DJ Wagner on Saturday, Feb. 17 at Neville Arena. Isaiah Wagner and the USC Trojans will also visit Neville Arena on Sunday, Dec. 17.
