Adam Rank predicts dreadful season for Chargers in 2020

Could the Los Angeles Chargers be last year’s San Francisco 49ers in 2020?

As we continue to inch closer to the 2020 regular season, predictions for how the year is going to shake up for all 32 NFL teams continues to flood the web.

We’ve seen a handful of them, including my own game-by-game predictions. For the most part, the Chargers are seen as a 7-9, 8-8, 9-7 or 10-6 team. But not in the eyes of NFL Media’s Adam Rank.

Rank sees Los Angeles finishing their campaign with a horrid 3-13 record and last in the AFC West. He cites the uncertainty at the quarterback position as the main reason why he forecasts a dud of a season.

“I think the Chargers are really taking a risk going into the season with Tyrod Taylor,” Rank said. He’s had his opportunities in the NFL before and has been unable to take advantage of them.

Justin Herbert looked good in the Senior Bowl, played well in the Pac-12 Championship Game, but struggled against quality competition in college.”

While there’s some reason to be concerned with the most important position on the field, the Chargers have too much talent on the defensive side of the ball and a slew of playmakers to make up for any lack of production from the quarterback position.

Is there a possibility that Los Angeles could finish below .500? Absolutely. But with how the roster is constructed, I don’t see them finishing with only three wins. Injuries, like last season, would have to occur in order for that to become a reality.

Keep in mind, predictions are to be taken with a grain of salt to begin with. However, Rank is the same analyst to predict the 49ers going 3-13 last season before they finished 13-3 and earned a trip to the Super Bowl, where they fell short to the Chiefs.
