The 2021 ACC baseball tournament got underway Tuesday with a bang.
And then another bang.
And then another.
And then eight more.
Seventh-seeded Louisville got by No. 11 Clemson 15-10 in a record-setting afternoon that kickstarted the tournament as a record-setting 11 home runs were hit by both teams.
Louisville found itself on the right side of the slugfest as Alex Binelas became the first Cardinals player since Adam Duvall in 2009 to hit three home runs in a single game. Ben Metzinger and Henry Davis each added a pair of home runs in the win as well.
For the Tigers it was Caden Grice hitting a pair of home runs to get Clemson an early 5-2 advantage that they ultimately couldn’t hold on to.
Clemson returns to action on Wednesday evening as they’ll be the visitor against No. 2 Georgia Tech. A loss on Wednesday would eliminate Clemson from the tournament.
Louisville will again be in action on Thursday against Georgia Tech in a game that if they won, would clinch the Cardinals a spot in the semi-finals.
