Abdul Carter a consensus All-American with AP All-American honor

Abdul Carter and Tyler Warren pick up more All-Americna honors.

With his third first-team All-American honor coming in on Monday, Penn State edge rusher [autotag]Abdul Carter[/autotag] became a consensus All-American. Carter was named a first-team All-American by the Associated Press, officially making him a consensus All-American. [autotag]Tyler Warren[/autotag] added another second-team All-American honor to his list of accolades for the 2024 college football season as well.

Carter was named a first-team All-American by the AFCA and the Walter Camp Football Foundation. Carter is now searching to be a unanimous All-American, something a Penn State player has accomplished 14 times in program history. Carl Nassib was the last Penn State player to be named a unanimous All-Americna by the NCAA in 2015.

To be recognized as a consensus All-American by the NCAA, a player must appear on at least three All-American lists as a first-team player by the Walter Camp Football Foundation, American Football Coaches Association of America, AP, Football Writers Association of America, and the Sporting News. The FWAA and Sporting News All-American lists have not been released yet.

Warren, who was named this season’s Mackey Award winner as the nation’s top tight end, has been named a second-team All-American by the AFCA and Walter Camp Football Foundation as well. By being named to the second team on all three lists, Warren is out of the running for consensus All-American status. Bowling Green’s Harold Fannin Jr. has been named a first-team player ahead of Warren each time so far.

Carter was named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year. Warren was named the Big Ten’s tight end of the year as well.
